Some culture, Greeks and sites around town...

Well it is Sunday and the day of the London Marathon so we decided to take it easy today and see a few museums and walk around town. It was another rainy day in London so we were ducking in and out of buildings. Here are some of the pictures for today.

WESTMINSTER ABBY
HONEST ABE

CHURCHILL watching over his COUNTRY

NATIONAL GALLERY (way to much culture in there)

BIG BEN
HORSE GUARDS PARADE (London Marathon finishline)
RELICS of ANCIENT GREECE (@ the British Museum)
These guys stole artifacts from everyone around the world and put it in their museum
ROSETTA STONE - this stone was made in 196 BC and contained identical writtings in three different languages, Egyptian hieroglyphics, Demotic and Greek. Because of this stone hieroglyphics were able to be understood.
Hope everyone is doing well back home!

Our new home, some Pimps and a Clock

The 2nd full day in London began with a Tube ride to Richmond and then a bus ride to Hampton Court and Palace. yet on the way we encountered....and I kid you not...a bunch of Pimps.

Hampton Court and Palace was built by Cardinal Wolsey (advisor to Henry VIII) and when the Cardinal could not convince the Pope and the Catholic Church to approve the divorce that Henry VIII wanted from Katherine (his 1st wife) he took the palace for himself. Sorry I had to throw in a little history for educational purposes.

But when we visited we took it over from Henry VIII. The Steele's would like to welcome you to our new summer home. Come on in and make yourself at home. You might be able to find a bedroom.....or wing to settle in for the night....

That man on the left tried to sneak in for the night so we had to send him to the Tower of London for a little off the "top" if you know what I mean.

And as visitors to our new house we invite you to help us figure out who these weird naked, serpent, flying things are......YIKES!

If you would like to step out on the back lawn you will see our wonderfully constructed gardens...

You will also see a mighty warrior with incredible power and physique and some weird stone guy behind him.You will also see some trees that look like they came out of Super Mario Brothers...After we left our new home for the day we headed back downtown for a stroll around town, where we found a new clock to hang in our house...you might recognize it..LOOK KIDS....

BIG BENPARLIMENT! (for those of you who don't get the movie reference, National Lampoons' European Vacation). I told you I would get it in Jennifer!

We tried to get it over to the new house but the darn thing was attached to some other building....oh well the search goes on for the new clock to go on the mantle. See you tomorrow, y'all come back now ya here!

Adultery, Execution and a Little Religion

So we started the day off with a little English breakfast and much to our surprise...well especially my husband's...they eat baked beans for breakfast. I remembered Dad saying something about beans on toast..but seeing it in real life with a big ole' banger next to them...well quite interesting. So we stuck to the toast and fruit for our first meal...

Then we headed over to the Tower of London...for a glance of how to lose your head in London....don't leave your children here and the wonderful crown jewels...oh to have that diamond! Sorry ladies no pictures allowed of the family jewels (you can credit Matthew for that line.) The Tower of London was the location for the beheading of Anne Boleyn (2nd wife to Henry VIII) because she did not give him a male heir even though he claimed she had committed adultery. Gees men demanding!

Then for the nerd in both of us, we headed over to the Tower Bridge...a wonderful feat in Victorian engineering that is still working today with a little update plus it had wonderful views of the Thames.

After leaving the Tower Bridge we walked along the Thames and passed a little ole bridge that we sang songs about as kids.....and our parents lied to us....LONDON BRIDGE IS NOT FALLING DOWN and we have proof right here!
And of course we had to pass the QUEEN on our walk...
Our walk led us to the newest bridge in London, the Millenium Bridge which crosse the Thames and drops you off a St. Paul's Cathedral.

After a long day around the city we met up with Kyle, our buddy from Tech (greatest school in the world) and had Italian. Believe it or not Italian food in England is very very good.
More to come tomorrow. We are planning to go out to Hampton Court and Palace. Home to Henry VIII.

We have arrived in London

We left Atlanta on Wednesday night (04/09) at 10:30 and fast forwarded through the night to arrive in London at noon on Thursday (04/10). You would think that we wanted to get out and hit the sites right away but all we both wanted to do was SLEEP! After a quick nap we walked across the street from our hotel to grab a quick bite from a traditional British restaurant with a member of the royal family...
After we bid adue to the "KING" we walked through Hyde Park and then Kinsington Park next to Kensington Palace. Kensington Palace was the birthplace of Queen Victoria and home of Princess Diana until 1997. We hope to have pictures of the interior later later this week but here are some shots from the gardens and park around the palace.

Opening Night at Turner Field

We got in one Braves game before we sent Tiffanie off to live with the land of "football" and cricket. Sadly, the Braves lost.

Welcome home, Glavine.

You could still see all the windows blown out of the buildings downtown and especially of our beloved Westin.

Happy Anniversary Sweetie!

Wow, three whole years you have put up with me :) I love you!

Plus, we get to celebrate Baby Jake's birthday today! He was born at 2:18 AM, weighing in at 8lbs. 7oz and 22 inches long. Congrats Laura, Clint and Hank!
